The School of Highway and Railway Engineering supports the “paving stone” spirit of “hard work, devotion, dedication, and striving for innovation” and upholds the development concept of “based on transportation, serving for transportation, supporting transportation, and leading transportation”. It abides by the construction concept of “university-enterprise cooperation, practical education, and enhancing the development of capacity connotation”, and forges the spiritualculture of “fairness in the heart, road at the foot, shoulder responsibility, and witness”. The school has been implementing professional reforms in the “major professions and minor directions” constantly for many years, with a particular emphasis on developing two major groups of provincial “double high-level” road and bridge engineering technology and school level distinctive railway engineering technology. The school has established a total of 10 majors (directions), including road and bridge design, road and bridge construction, road and bridge inspection, highway cost, road maintenance, railway engineering, track engineering, high-speed rail construction, railway bridge and tunnel, and safety technology. The school is planned to implement a talent cultivation model of “combining moral and technical education, job orientation, alternating learning and training, improving abilities, and integrating talents”, closely connect with the upgrading and transformation development of the transportation industry, closely focus on the industrial needs of transportation infrastructure construction and management, serve the construction of a “transportation powerhouse”, and cultivate highway and railway engineering technical skilled talents who love transportation, take root at the grassroots level, and work hard.
The school has a total of 60 faculty members, including 44 Communist Party members, 13 professors, 19 associate professors, 4 senior engineers, and 47 students with graduate degrees or above. At present, there are 2 provincial (ministerial) level famous teachers, 2 provincial level famous vocational teachers in transportation, 2 “Young Outstanding Talents Support Plans” in Shaanxi universities, 2 young scientific and technological talents in transportation, 2 provincial excellent teachers, 1 provincial excellent instructor, 5 college-level exemplary individual teachers, and 5 college-level famous teachers.
There are currently 18 professional training rooms (bases), over 3,000 sets of test equipment, with a total value of over RMB 19 million. It is a training base supported by the central finance and the Ministry of Transport, a productivetraining base for road and bridge engineering technology jointlyestablishedby the school and enterprises under theInnovative Development Action for Higher Vocational Educationof the Ministry of Education, and a provincial comprehensive road training center.
The school has created 4 national vocational standards in the last five years, 2 professional resource libraries, 10 online premium courses, and four national vocational standards. For the transportation and civil engineering series, 2 monographs and a collection of digital textbooks (21 types) were released. The school oversaw 30 projectsat or above bureau levelhigher, publishing more than 30 core papers, 60 patents and software copyrights.
In the past five years, students have won a total of4 first prizesin the National Non-destructive Testing Skills Competition for Students in Transportation Vocational Colleges,1 group first prizeof group and3 individual first prizesof the National Transportation Vocational Education Road and Bridge Construction Technology Application Skills Competition, and 1 first prize of group and 4 individual first of the preliminary round of the 13thNational Transportation Industry Highway Maintenance Workers (Student Group) Vocational Skills Competition, the school received 2Group first prizesand 4 individual firstPrizesin the Experimental Testing and Geotechnical Skills Competition for Shaanxi provincial vocational colleges, and 1 individualfirst prize in the 4thShaanxi Provincial College Student Engineering Drawing and 3D Modeling Competition. A total of 21 provincial and above group awards and 81 individual awards was received.
The school cooperated with Shaanxi Transportation Holding Group, ShaanxiTransportationConstruction Group, Shaanxi Expressway Group, Shaanxi Circuit and Bridge Group, Shaanxi Province Railway Group Co, Ltd, CCCC Second Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., China Railway First Group Co,Ltd, China Railway No.10 Engineering Group Co, Ltd, China Railway No.20 Engineering Group Co, Ltd, CCCC Highway Maintenance Engineering Technology Co, Ltd, Sichuan Shengtuo Co, Ltd, Shaanxi Motorway Mechanization Engineering Co, Ltd. and other enterprises to provide job support for students’ internship and employment. Students have received professional learning and skill training in surveying internships, surveying and design, construction management, quality testing, operation and maintenance, and their professional talents have been vastly increased during their school years. They have developed into transportation construction technology skilled talents with a practical and tireless mentality rooted in the frontlines, who understand design, precision construction, and management.
